L+C’s Wahclella Falls elopement was like stepping into a fairytale—complete with a storybook-worthy Airbnb and a waterfall. They flew in from Colorado for their big day, as they loved my artistic style, and I truly felt like I got to use that to my full advantage to bring their elopement dreams to life. We kicked things off at their incredible Airbnb, a.k.a. The Hobbit House (yes, it’s as magical as it sounds). It’s a cozy little cottage tucked into the woods with a literal round door. They exchanged private vows in the golden afternoon sunlight, and I might’ve had something in my eye (totally not tears). Afterward, we grabbed some portraits around the property before heading to the falls for the grand adventure. I love connecting with couples, capturing their love, and getting to work in epic places like this.

An Adventurous Wahclella Falls Elopement

This waterfall elopement at Wahclella Falls was what dreams (and Pinterest boards) are made of. This spot in the Columbia River Gorge has lush greenery and misty falls, creating the most stunning backdrop. The trail is a 2.4-mile round-trip hike, and as we made our way through, the vibe turned moody with the clouds rolling in—ideal for their romantic portraits. L’s veil was a showstopper, adding an ethereal touch that screamed storybook romance. They took in the falls, soaking in peaceful moments together as the sun went down. This elopement was everything I love about photographing couples in breathtaking locations:

  • A little adventure.
  • A lot of love.
  • A location that feels like it belongs in a fairytale.

Tips for Your Waterfall Elopement

If you’re dreaming of a Wahclella Falls elopement (and honestly, who wouldn’t be?), there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind to make it as stress-free as possible. First, permits. Even nature comes with paperwork, so check with the U.S. Forest Service to ensure you’re all set. You don’t need a special use permit at this particular waterfall, but you may need a Waterfall Corridor Timed Use Permit if you’re eloping between May and September.

Timing is everything—spring and early fall are perfect for that lush greenery, manageable crowds, and misty-moody vibe like this elopement, but be prepared for a bit of rain. And don’t forget to pack smart! Think sturdy shoes for the 2.4-mile round-trip hike, a cozy jacket for those cooler moments, and maybe even a snack—because you don’t want to be hangry in your wedding photos. It’s all about planning ahead so you can fully enjoy the excitement of your day without worrying about the details.
