M+J’s Bridal Veil Falls elopement was the coziest, dreamiest rainy-day adventure in the Columbia River Gorge. If you’ve ever wondered whether you should elope in the middle of winter in the PNW (I know many of you are NOT thinking this, lol)… the answer is absolutely yes.
These two showed up in the cutest rain jackets, ready to hike, laugh, and get a little wet in the name of love. And yes, there was hot cocoa involved. Because when you’re eloping in the middle of winter in the Gorge, adding a little extra coziness is necessary.

Starting at Bridal Veil Falls
We kicked off the day with a short hike down to Bridal Veil Falls, and wow—lush doesn’t even begin to cover it. The forest was covered in moss, rain-kissed leaves, and damp PNW air that smells like adventure. M+J showed up in their CUTE rain jackets and totally leaned into the cozy vibes.
Their first look was tucked away in the trees. Then we found the perfect little spot for their vows, just the two of them and the steady rush of the waterfall behind us.

Climbing & Soaking in the View
After their vows, we spotted this massive rock nearby, and—because these two are the coolest—they didn’t hesitate to climb it. Don’t worry, it was safe, and I’m not risking anyone’s ankles for the shot. But the view? Unreal.
Once they climbed back down, we found a quiet spot to breathe and soak it all in. I whipped out my Jetboil so they could have some hot cocoa—yes, I bring the gear, and yes, it’s available to any couple who wants a cozy mid-hike treat.

A Waterfall Elopement Adventure
Next up: Latourell Falls. We made the short drive and instantly got hit with full-on Iceland vibes—towering cliffs, wild spray coming in sideways, and dramatic, moody energy the Columbia River Gorge is so good at serving up. M+J didn’t flinch. They ran straight into the mist and lived in the moment.

Then, just like that, the day wrapped up. Just two people heading off to grab lunch together, still wet from the waterfall and smiling. This whole day was a beautiful reminder: your elopement doesn’t have to be sunshiney or perfectly polished. It just has to be you. Cozy, rainy, playful—you get to choose the vibe. I’m just here to help you bring it to life.

Columbia River Gorge Elopement Photographer
Rainy winter elopements in the Columbia River Gorge are criminally underrated. It’s not always sunny skies and clear views, but that’s the point. The mood, mist, and slightly wild energy of it all make your elopement feel a little messy, a lot beautiful, and completely unforgettable.
So, if you’re stressing about the forecast, don’t. The weather doesn’t ruin the day. It makes the day. You have to lean in and trust that magic still happens in the drizzle (and it does every single time).
I’m Mattie—your future third wheel, cocoa dealer, and Bridal Veil Falls elopement photographer, based in the beautiful PNW.
