K + O traveled up from Southern California for their beach maternity shoot at Cannon Beach with one main goal: slow things down and soak in this season before their family grows. Between the ocean air, the wide-open shoreline, and that unmistakable Cannon Beach calm, it felt like the perfect place to pause and just be. Of course, the Oregon coast likes to keep things interesting. As their session date was nearing, we refreshed the weather app more times than I’d like to admit—rain forecasts, dramatic clouds, and a lot of questioning. Cannon Beach weather is famously unpredictable, and this day was no exception.
Instead of locking into a rigid plan, K + O leaned into flexibility (which is one of the best things you can bring to the coast). We kept things loose, trusted the timing, and let the beach do its thing. Just when it mattered most, the clouds cracked open and delivered the dreamiest golden hour glow. Soft light, reflective sand, and that post-rain magic that only the Oregon coast can pull off. Patience paid off. Sometimes the best photos come from letting go of control and trusting the process… even if it means checking the forecast one last time for good measure.
Barefoot, Connected, and Making Memories for the Future
One of my favorite parts of this session was how K + O were completely in their element and fully present in this in-between chapter of life. There’s something really special about maternity sessions.
Luna, the sweetest pup and very proud soon-to-be big sister, trotted along the shoreline like she owned the place (she kind of did). Including pets in photos always makes the story feel more complete, especially when they’re such a big part of your everyday life.
Cannon Beach is a location that grows with you, too. It’s incredibly accessible, timeless, and never looks the same twice. A maternity session here can easily turn into family photos down the road, anniversary sessions, or just an excuse to come back year after year and document life as it unfolds. Same beach, different season of life, and that’s the kind of storytelling that never gets old.
Why a Beach Maternity Shoot at Cannon Beach is Always a Yes
If there’s one thing Cannon Beach will teach you, it’s that plans are more like suggestions. The weather shifts and the forecast loves a little drama, but there’s also magic in that. The secret is flexibility. Being willing to adjust timing, embrace moody skies, or wait a few extra minutes for the light to break through can completely change the outcome, and often for the better. Golden hour at Cannon Beach is extremely rewarding, especially when the clouds decide to show off.
Whether you’re visiting from out of state or coming back year after year, Cannon Beach never stops delivering. It’s classic, dramatic, and always ready to meet you exactly where you are in life.
