It’s a little poetic spending an evening creating lake engagement photos for two people whose careers have taken them all over the country. A+H are traveling doctors, which means home has looked a little different over the years. Between new assignments, new cities, and the demands that come with caring for others, they’ve built a life rooted less in a place and more in each other.
During their time in Washington, they quickly fell in love with everything that makes the Pacific Northwest special. The towering evergreens, quiet lakes, mountain views, and endless opportunities to get outside became a meaningful part of this chapter of their lives. When the time came to plan their engagement session, choosing a location that reflected that connection felt like an easy decision.
Yale Lake gave us exactly what we were hoping for: beautiful scenery, a peaceful atmosphere, and the perfect backdrop for documenting this season before they head off to their next adventure.

Capturing a Season of Life in the Pacific Northwest
One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is that they aren’t just about celebrating a future wedding day. They’re also about documenting the life you’re living right now.
For A+H, that meant embracing the landscapes that have become such a memorable part of their experience in the Pacific Northwest. As traveling healthcare professionals, they spend much of their lives adapting to new environments and communities. While their assignments may change, their love for exploring new places together has remained a constant.
The Pacific Northwest has a way of leaving a mark on people. It could be the combination of rugged landscapes and slower-paced moments, or the way every road seems to lead to a trailhead, a lake, or a mountain view. Whatever it is, A+H wanted their engagement photos to reflect the beauty they’ve experienced while calling Washington home. Rather than focusing on a highly styled location, we leaned into nature and allowed the evening to unfold organically.

Dreamy Summer Yale Lake Engagement Photos at Sunset
A late summer evening in Washington is hard to beat. The days are long, the evenings stay warm, and everything takes on that golden-season glow that photographers spend all year dreaming about. Yale Lake delivered all of that and then some.
One of the best decisions we made for this session was planning enough time to photograph into blue hour. While golden hour tends to get most of the attention, blue hour deserves its moment too and is still somehow so underrated. When the sun starts to disappear, the light softens. The sky shifts into muted shades of blue, the lakes become calm and reflective, and everything feels a little quieter.
And honestly, some of my favorite moments happen once most people would have packed up and headed home. Next, check out this surprise proposal in Oregon!
